GED TEST PREP TUTORING
Adults 18 years old or older seeking their high school equivalency can recieve one-to-one tutoring to help prepare for the high school equivalency. Students must complete an intake interview and intake testing before being matched with a trained tutor. Once you have been matched with a tutor you will start working on your specific areas in need of improvement. Contact the office to make an appointment.
ADULT BASIC SKILLS TUTORING

ESL / CITIZENSHIP TUTORING
Adults seeking to improve their English speaking, reading and writing skill or wishing to study to obtain their United States Citizenship can receive one-to-one tutoring. Jobs for Michigan Graduates (JMG)
The Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates (JMG) Program at Family Literacy Center helps GED-seeking young adults up to age 24 with job skills, training opportunities, and enrolling in college. Each student in the JMG Program learns work readiness skills and about jobs that might interest them. They also create a resume specific to their work interests.
The JMG Program tries to meet the needs and goals of each student. The JMG Program provides coaching and support to students enrolling in college, seeking employment, starting an apprenticeship program, or registering for training. No matter what your next step is JMG can help you!
Our Child Tutoring Program is a six-week program, 1.5 hours a week. The Focus is on elementary students grades 1’st through 4th from Lapeer Community Schools who are not performing at grade level in reading and/or math. We provide one-to-one tutoring with assessments. The children will play learning games, have literacy time, and other focused activities. Sessions are posted on our Facebook page and an application is required. Registration is required by calling the Family Literacy Center at 810-664-2737.
Parents and caregivers looking for ways to help keep your child busy, entertained and learning all the time? Play, learn, and do crafts with your child at an inter-active playgroup for parents/caregivers and their children from birth to age 5. At this 90- minute 1 day a week program, children will participate in story time, developmentally appropriate games, learn new skills, and enjoy a snack, and social time with other children. Our Reading Buddy Program is one-to-one tutoring for local area elementary students in the 2nd grade who are not performing at grade level in reading and/or math. This program takes place within the elementary school during the school day. The students will work on reading skills as well as math. The child’s teacher makes a recommendation for the student and then will send home an application to be filled out and returned to the school.
READY, SET, GO!
Parents have fun and learn along with your preschooler at this fun interactive workshop. Ready-Set-Go! Is a one hour 1 day a month workshop for children 3-5 years old and their parent or caregiver. The focus is on fun learning activities that help develop reading skills and get kids ready for kindergarten. Children will enjoy a snack, social time with other children and take home a free book as well! Sessions are posted on our Facebook page. Registration is required.
