After school Child Tutoring
Our Child Tutoring Program is a six-week program, 1.5 hours a week. The Focus is on elementary students grades 1’st through 4th from Lapeer Community Schools who are not performing at grade level in reading and/or math. We provide one-to-one tutoring with assessments. The children will play learning games, have literacy time, and other focused activities. Sessions are posted on our Facebook page and an application is required. Registration is required by calling the Family Literacy Center at 810-664-2737.
Our Reading Buddy Program is one-to-one tutoring for local area elementary students in the 2nd grade who are not performing at grade level in reading and/or math. This program takes place within the elementary school during the school day. The students will work on reading skills as well as math. The child’s teacher makes a recommendation for the student and then will send home an application to be filled out and returned to the school.
The best way to create a love of reading is having access to books. Having a book of your own is a special treat for children. To make sure that every child we meet has a book the Family Literacy gives books away at all of our programs and events we attend in the community. To do this we need donations of NEW or Like NEW children's books. If you have new or like new children's books you would like to donate, please call the office at 810-664-2737 to set up a drop-off time.
